Student Code of Conduct

We Can Code IT expects all members of our team, both students and staff, to work by our team values, and holds all accountable to those values. Our code of conduct is based in upholding these values. As our program is intended to prepare students to enter the tech industry as employees, they are evaluated based on, and held accountable to these values, much in the same way they can expect to be in a work environment.

WCCI values are below:

  • Be the Best At What We Do
  • Embrace Agility
  • Own Your Own Stuff
  • We Mean Business
  • Do The Right Thing
  • Strive To Understand
  • Champion Diversity And Inclusion

For further details on these values, go here

In accordance with these values, as well as state regulations, below are rules and guidelines regarding behavior, attendance, and academic performance at We Can Code IT. These values are to be followed at all related activities on or offsite. While these are common examples of adhering to our values, this list should not be considered exhaustive. The rules and guidelines are subject to change at the discretion of We Can Code IT and as required by state regulations.

  • Maintain an overall grade of 80% or higher for all coursework.
  • Maintain an overall attendance percentage of 90% or higher.
  • Refrain from conduct that is physically or emotionally threatening to fellow students, We Can Code IT faculty, and We Can Code IT staff, including written or verbal threats, intimidation, and/or physical assault. This includes threatening conduct exhibited by a student’s family member, friend or other persons.
  • Refrain from sexual harassment and discriminatory language/hate speech.
  • Refrain from acts of academic dishonesty and maintain the highest standards of academic integrity. This means that students will submit their own coding work (no assistance from outside coders, etc.) Students may be asked to provide a list of all resources used.
  • Refrain from all activities prohibited by We Can Code IT locations or facilities management.

Immediate Dismissal from a We Can Code IT Program

*Students and/or their family members, friends and/or other persons that are found to participate in conduct that is physically, verbally, or emotionally threatening will be immediately dismissed from a program. The severity of the offense is determined at the full discretion of We Can CodeIT.

Accountability Plan

Depending on the nature and circumstances of the Code of Conduct violation, We Can Code IT reserves the right to use the Student Code of Conduct Accountability Plan in any order and/or accelerate the process. Any exception to this policy listed above may be made at the full discretion of We Can Code IT.

If a student’s conduct appears to require immediate dismissal, the student may be required to leave campus and not return until executive leadership discuss the behavior and determine if immediate dismissal is required.

  • If at any point WCCI instructors and/or staff observe student behaviors that do not align with our values, the student may be invited to discuss the behavior in question with various team members.
  • Students will be asked to analyze their own behavior regarding our stated values.

The process is as follows:

  • Student will be asked to rate their adherence to each value:

    • “ + ” (usually follows this value)
    • “ +-” (sometimes follow this value) or
    • “-” (rarely follows this value.)
  • The instructor or other team member will provide their own rating based on their observations of the student’s behavior(s)
  • The team members and the student will determine which behaviors need to change, and formulate a plan to avoid these behaviors in the future
  • This plan is to be revisited weekly, or as necessary, for the term of the action plan, to ensure all parties remain on track
  • If this plan is not followed, or an additional violation(s) of any We Can Code IT value(s) is observed, further action, up to and including dismissal, is required.
